Mrs. Wiegand was first elected to the Berwick Area School Board in 2007 in a competitive election. Since then she has served for 11 years. She has been President for 2 years and has been a committee member in Budget, Academics Affairs, Athletics, PSBA representative and currently chairs the Buildings & Grounds Committee.
Mr. Hess was elected to the school board in 2017, coming from a competitive election, and is serving in his second year on the board.
He is a 1995 graduate of the Berwick Area School District, a 1997 Graduate of Luzerne County Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, and a 1999 Graduate of Wilkes University with a Bachelor’s
Degree in Accounting.
Mrs. Kovalewski was first elected to the Berwick Area School Board in 2001. Mrs. Kovalewski, a Democrat, has served on numerous committees during her tenure on the board. She currently chairs the Academic Affairs Committee which has helped launch many district initiatives. Mrs. Kovalewski served as President and Vice President of the board and she was the Chairperson of the Athletic Committee from 2007-2009.
She was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Association of Developmental Educators, and serves as Northeast Region Co-Chair. Mrs. Kovalewski has received the NISOD Excellence Award for Staff and Organization Development, which was presented by the Community Leadership Program of the University of Texas at Austin and is on the Eckerd 100 National Honor Roll of Outstanding Women in the United States.
Mrs. Slavick was recently appointed to a two year term to the Berwick Area school board in December of 2017. She has retired from an eleven year tenure as the Principal of the Weatherly Area Elementary Middle School. Prior to this appointment, she served as a teacher in the Berwick School District for twenty-three years.
