In our district, we use assessments as a powerful tool to support student learning—not just to measure it. From classroom quizzes to state-mandated exams, assessments help us understand what students know, what they’re ready to learn next, and how we can best support their growth.

We believe that when assessments are used thoughtfully, they provide valuable insight for teachers, students, and families. Our goal is to strike the right balance: using assessment data to guide instruction and improve outcomes, while also ensuring that testing never overshadows the joy of learning.

Throughout the school year, students participate in a variety of assessments, including classroom-based checks for understanding, benchmark assessments, and state assessments such as the PSSA and Keystone Exams. This information helps us tailor instruction, provide targeted support, and celebrate progress.

Most importantly, we use assessment as a way to empower students—to show them how far they’ve come and help them see what’s possible.
