Congratulations to the March Students of the Month!

BHS seniors Abigail Burdsall and Alex Levan spent the weekend rehearsing and performing professional-level repertoire at the Central Region Orchestra Festival held at Williamsport Area High School.

Berwick Quiz Bowl's A-team returned to upstate New York this weekend and for the third successive school year claimed a tournament championship in New York state, winning the Central NY Quiz Bowl Winter Tournament held at Bishop Ludden-Grimes High School in Syracuse, NY on February 28.
Berwick's A-team was anchored by sophomore Jaxon Hittle who was named tournament MVP after averaging 80 ppg over ten tournament matches. Teammates Thomas DiBattista, Fable Gunther, and Riley Kershner contributed 13 combined powers to the team's total of 32 in compiling a 9-1 record throughout the tournament. The team set a new school record for bonus conversion on a varsity-level set at 16.75 points per bonus.
Berwick A handily controlled its preliminary round bracket, cruising to a 4-0 record and averaging over 410 points/game. Berwick A stumbled in its first playoff round, recording six interrupt penalties in a 160-240 loss to Cooperstown A. A-team returned from the lunch break and held tournament individual high scorer Austin Chen from Geneva to just six toss-ups, with Jaxon scoring 4 of his 19 powers in a 325-170 win over Geneva. A tight 240-230 win over Niskayuna A put Berwick A back in control of the tournament, and was followed by wins over Fairport A and Wallenpaupack A, coming back from a halftime deficit to handily defeat Wallenpaupack 325-170. Berwick A finished the tournament with a dominant 365-145 win over host team Bishop Ludden-Grimes A. Berwick A's 6-1 playoff bracket record outpaced the 4-3 playoff performance of Fairport A, Niskayuna A, and Wallenpaupack A who shared a three-way tie for 2nd place.
Berwick's B-team's solid 2-2 morning was clouded by a tougher 1-4 afternoon in the tournament's top consolation bracket, leading to a 14th place overall finish. Freshman Ian Costanzo's performance was a bright spot, as Ian averaged nearly 50 points/game in the preliminary rounds to claim a book prize, along with Jaxon. Sophomores Quinn Kishbaugh and Caleb Czajkowski were solid in contributing over 15 points/game.
Berwick's performance in the tournament compared to perennial Small School Nationals playoff schools Cooperstown and Geneva bodes well for its initial invitation to the Small School National Championship in Rosemont, IL in late April.
