Mrs. Kovalewski was first elected to the Berwick Area School Board in 2001. Mrs. Kovalewski, a Democrat, has served on numerous committees during her tenure on the board. She currently chairs the Academic Affairs Committee which has helped launch many district initiatives. Mrs. Kovalewski served as President and Vice President of the board and she was the Chairperson of the Athletic Committee from 2007-2009.
She was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Association of Developmental Educators, and serves as Northeast Region Co-Chair. Mrs. Kovalewski has received the NISOD Excellence Award for Staff and Organization Development, which was presented by the Community Leadership Program of the University of Texas at Austin and is on the Eckerd 100 National Honor Roll of Outstanding Women in the United States.
She has also won the Community Caring Award as presented by the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation and was the Outstanding Citizen of the Year as presented by the Berwick Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In addition to these honors, Mrs. Kovalewski has been recognized as the recipient of the Ray J. Calabrese Outstanding Volunteer Award, which was presented by the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Kovalewski is employed at Luzerne County Community College. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Penn State and has Master’s Degrees from Bloomsburg University and Marywood University.
Mrs. Kovalewski has a son, Joseph.
