BERWICK GIRLS’ SOCCER ADVANCES TO PIAA CLASS AAA EASTERN SEMI-FINALS
SLATINGTON – The Berwick Area High School Girls’ Soccer Team has become the first soccer team in the history of the school to advance to the PIAA Eastern Semi-finals. Berwick defeated Athens 1-0 Tuesday night in PIAA Class AAA action at the Balls Mills Soccer Complex near Williamsport to advance to the “Elite Eight” in Pennsylvania.
Emma Colone scored the game-winner for the Lady Bulldogs, and Jadyn Michael posted a strong game in goal to lead a strong team effort in rainy, cold conditions.
The Lady Bulldogs, 17-4, advance to play District 1 Champion Villa Joseph Maria Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Northern Lehigh High School in Slatington. Villa Maria Joseph hails from the Philadelphia area and won the PIAA Class AAA title in 2014. The winner of Saturday’s game will play the winner of the Archbishop Ryan-Dallas game in the Eastern Final on Tuesday evening.
Berwick advanced through the district tournament and first round of states despite having just 15 active players. A subsequent injury has left the Lady Bulldogs with 14 players for tomorrow’s clash.
