BAHS Graduates Make Their Mark at Collegiate Level
BERWICK, PA. – Several all-conference selections and one All-American headline an impressive group of Berwick Area High School graduates, who are competing at the collegiate level. The list includes 9 Division I athletes, a Division II standout and 14 Division III competitors, who have taken their talents to the post-secondary ranks. Three additional athletes have signed their letters of intent for the 2018-2019 academic year. The three current high school seniors, who have signed are Payden Montana, Sammi Starr and Kylie Levan, and are listed in bold type letters. The Division III list includes a female athlete, who competes in both Track and Field and basketball.

Jordan DiValerio, a 2016 Berwick Graduate, had a solid freshman season at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. DiValerio is listed as a 6-1, 215 lb. right handed pitcher for the Hawks. He pitched in 12 games, with four as the starting pitcher. He had an earned run average of 3.38 and had a 1-2 record.
St. Joseph’s is an NCAA Division I school. The Hawks compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Elizabeth Dyer, Berwick Area High School Class of 2015, is listed as a 5-10 junior goalkeeper for the St. Francis Red Flash Field Hockey Team. St. Francis is located in Loretto, PA, near Altoona. Dyer was named the first team All-Northeast Conference goalie last year as a sophomore. She was also selected as the 2017 preseason top goalkeeper in the NEC.
She was a four-sport athlete at Berwick and graduated with honors. Dyer majors in Chemistry at St. Francis. The Red Flash finished their season at 8-9, while participating in the NEC. St. Francis is an NCAA Division I program.
Tyler Evans, a 2016 BAHS grad, is currently a 6-5 sophomore guard at Hood College in Maryland. Evans scored 3 points during 12 minutes of play in the Blazers’ 93-78 season-opening loss to Division I Mount Saint Mary’s. Evans is a former Wyoming Valley Conference Player of the Year and is the leading scorer in Berwick Area High School history with 1,441 career points.
Hood College competes as an NCAA Division III School.
Kirah Kochinski, Berwick Area High School Class of 2015, is listed as a 5-0 Junior Gymnast at West Virginia University. She was named to the 2017 All-Big 12 Team in the vault and was tied for 13th best in the nation in that event. Kochinski was also named as Newcomer of the Year in the Big-12 as a freshman and has competed successfully nationally and internationally for more than a decade. She is also one of just six WVU Gymnasts to be recognized as an All-American in Gymnastics.
West Virginia University is an NCAA Division I School. The Mountaineers compete in the Big-12 Conference.
Taylor Montana, a 2016 Berwick Area High School Graduate, is listed as a 5-11 sophomore forward for the Bloomsburg University women’s basketball team. Montana had an outstanding freshman season at Bloomsburg, reaching double figures in points and rebounds on several occasions. She is averaging 9.5 points and 5 rebounds per game after two games this season. The Huskies are currently 1-1.
Bloomsburg plays in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and is an NCAA Division II school.
Kevin Woodeshick, a 2014 BAHS grad, is listed as a 6-2, 225 lb. tight end at the University of Maryland. Woodeshick was a standout tight end at Berwick and played on three consecutive PIAA District 2 Class AAA finalists. The Terrapins are an NCAA Division I school and compete in the Big 10.
Andrew Force, BAHS Class of 2015, is listed as a 6-3, 220 lb. tight end at Fordham University in the Bronx, N.Y. Force was a two-time all-conference selection in high school as a wide receiver, before moving to tight end at Fordham. He is a Political Science Major.
Fordham University competes in the Northeast Athletic Conference. The Rams are a Football Subdivision School, formerly Division 1-AA.
Mason Kimball, a 2017 graduate of Berwick Area High School is listed on the cross country roster at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York. Kimball completed the 5-mile course at the National Catholic Invitational in 27:40.9 and finished 2nd on his team and 13th overall with a time of 16:34.20 on a 5K course in the Little 3 Championships.
St. Bonaventure is an NCAA Division 1 School. The Bonnies compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Kevin Laubach, a 2013 BAHS graduate, is listed as a 5-9, 157 lb. redshirt senior on the Bloomsburg University Wrestling Team. H was a 4-time district place-winner and regional qualifier at Berwick. He was also named to the Academic All-American Wrestling Team in 2013.
Laubach started his collegiate career at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA before transferring back to Bloomsburg. He has a third place finish at the PSAC Championships on his resume and projects as a middleweight starter for the Huskies this year. He is an Economics major at BU.
Bloomsburg University is in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and its’ wrestling program competes in NCAA Division 1.
Rebecca Decker, a 2017 Berwick graduate, is listed as a freshman swimmer at Long Island University-Brooklyn. Decker, along with current Bulldog swimmer Sydney Lloyd, became the first Berwick female swimmers to reach the state tournament in a decade last year.
Decker is listed as a freestyler for the Blackbirds. LIU-Brooklyn is an NCAA Division I School, which competes in the Northeast Conference (NEC).
Jeff Steeber, BAHS Class of 2013, is listed as a 6-2, 215 lb. Junior Wide Receiver for the Wilkes University football team. He carried the ball 31 times for 219 yards and had 36 catches for 344 yards this season. He is also utilized as a kick returner.
Steeber is majoring in Environmental Science/Geology. He was an all-conference performer as a wide receiver at Berwick. The Wilkes Colonels compete in NCAA Division III and are members of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC).
Alexis Steeber, Berwick Area High School class of 2015 graduate, is a member of the King’s College Women’s Basketball team and the Track and Field team. She is listed as a 5-9 junior forward in basketball and scored 16 points and had 6 rebounds in Kings’ season opening 70-67 win over Neumann College. She started 21 games as a sophomore for the Monarch’s.
Steeber also participates in multiple events on the Track and Field team at King’s. King’s is an NCAA Division III School, which participates in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC).
Dylan Gearinger, a 2015 BAHS Graduate, is listed as a junior on the Haverford College Cross Country team. Haverford is one of the most prestigious small colleges in the nation and is located on the Main Line, near Philadelphia.
Gearinger received All-Mideast region honors in 2017 and was the Centennial Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week two times. He has been named first team All Centennial Conference after making second team All-Conference as a sophomore. He qualified for nationals and placed 10th in the conference meet as a sophomore.
Gearinger is majoring in Psychology. The Fords compete in NCAA Division III and are a member of the Centennial Conference.
Samantha Dyer, BAHS Class of 2017, is listed as a freshman cross country team member at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. Dyer participated in all meets for the Pirates during her freshman season. She plans to major in Biology.
Seton Hall is an NCAA Division I School. The Pirates compete in the Big East Conference.
Tori Talanca, BAHS Class of 2017, is listed as a 5-11 freshman forward at Lycoming College in Williamsport. She scored 2 points and had 8 rebounds in the Warriors season-opening 108-61 win over Penn-State Hazleton. Talanca was an All-Conference performer at Berwick and was instrumental in the Bulldogs advancement to the second round of the PIAA Class AAAA state tournament last year.
Lycoming College is an NCAA Division III school and competes in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC).
Kristen Bertollo, a 2017 Berwick Area High School Graduate, is listed as a freshman midfielder, on the Elizabethtown Blue Jays Field Hockey Team. Bertollo had an outstanding career at Berwick and is one of seven freshman on the E-Town roster.
Elizabethtown is an NCAA Division III School. The Blue Jays compete in the Landmark Conference.
C.J. Curry, a 2014 BAHS graduate, is listed as a 6-2, 201 lb. Jr. linebacker at King’s College in Wilkes Barre. Curry played in all 10 games as a sophomore last year for the Monarchs, and was credit with 22 tackles. He once again appeared in every game this year as King’s finished 5-5.
Curry led the Bulldogs to a 14-1 record and an appearance in the state semi-finals in his senior year of high school, while playing for his grandfather, the legendary Coach George Curry. He started his collegiate career as a quarterback at East Stroudsburg University, before transferring to King’s and moving to linebacker. He is an education major.
King’s College competes in NCAA Division III and is a member of the Middle Atlantic Conference.
Kyle Roberts, a 2017 graduate of BAHS, is listed as a 6-1, 220 lb. freshman defensive lineman at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore Maryland. The Blue Jays face Washington and Jefferson of suburban Pittsburgh in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Saturday. Johns Hopkins won the Centennial Conference with a record of 9-1 and advances to the NCAA Tournament for the 7th straight year.
Roberts saw action in five games this year. He was a three-year starter at Berwick and was a 2-time Wyoming Valley Conference selection. He is majoring in Economics at JHU.
Jorden Stout, a 2014 graduate of Berwick Area High School, is listed as a 6-0. 290 lb. defensive lineman at Moravian University in Bethlehem, PA. Stout appeared in games for the Greyhounds on offense and defense and as a punter. Stout is a Sociology Major, with a minor in Criminal Justice.
Stout led the Bulldogs to a 14-1 record and a berth in the PIAA Class AAA Eastern finals in his senior season in 2014.
The Greyhounds compete in the Centennial Conference and are an NCAA Division III school.
Brianna Floryshak, a 2015 BAHS Graduate, is listed as a 5-8 junior midfielder on the Washington and Jefferson College Women’s Soccer team. Floryskak has played in every game for the Prexis, scoring 3 goals with four assists.
Washington and Jefferson is located in Washington, PA, south of Pittsburgh. The school participates in the President’s Athletic Conference and is an NCAA Division III school. W&J completed its season with a record of 12-6-1.
Allison Rinehimer, BAHS Class of 2014, is starring as a 5-7 senior goalkeeper at Washington and Jefferson College. She is a 2017 all-PAC Honorable Mention selection and was on the 2015 and 2016 PAC Academic Roll. She has been recognized as the PAC Goalkeeper/Defensive Player of the Week and the ECAC Division III South Defensive Player of the Week. Washington and Jefferson competes in the Presidents Athletic Conference and in NCAA Division III.
Shea Petty, a 2017 graduate of Berwick Area High School, is listed as a 5-4 freshman on the Lackawanna College Women’s Softball team. Petty will begin play for the Falcons in the Spring.
Lackawanna College competes in NCAA Division III.
Dyllan Weaver, BAHS Class of 2017, is listed as a 5-11, 195 lb. freshman on the Men’s Soccer Team at Clarks Summit University. Weaver is majoring in Youth and Family Ministry at the Faith-Based University.
Clarks Summit University is in the Colonial States Athletic Conference and competes in NCAA Division III.
