BERWICK WINS UNIVERSITY OF SCRANTON PHYSICS COMPETITION

BERWICK – Two Berwick Area High School Physics Teams took 1st and Third Place at the “Kane” Physics Competition yesterday at the University of Scranton.

The event attracted 31 teams from more than a dozen Northeastern Pennsylvania schools, with teams competing in several physics demonstrations involving Projectile Motion, Harmonic Motion with a Pendulum, Momentum and Collisions and Energy Loss.  Participants also competed in the “Kane” Quiz that featured problems in Mechanics, Optics, and Electromagnetism.

In the final “Back to the Future” themed event, the Berwick – 1 Team completed a three-stage problem-solving and building task to take 1st of the 31 teams.

Berwick Senior Spencer Yacuboski finished in the top three of the “Kane” Quiz and was invited to compete in the “Physics Jeopardy” event, where he placed 2nd. The Berwick – 1 Team (pictured) consisted of: Emily Dent, Olivia Lombardi, Jacob Demler, Mason Kimbell, Madi Traugh, Spencer Yacuboski, and Zach Mensinger. Matthew Shrader coached the team.
