BERWICK – Pennsylvania Attorney General John Shapiro visited Berwick Area High School to discuss the issue of opioid abuse and answer questions from the BAHS student body.
Mr. Shapiro’s address was preceded by speeches from representatives from the Attorney General’s Office and by recovering drug addict Joseph Liebovitz. The Attorney General spoke and took questions for nearly an hour and delivered a powerful message about his plans to address the problem of drug abuse.
Mr. Shapiro chose Berwick as his initial visit before visiting other schools throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Attorney General addressed questions regarding topics such as: medicinal marijuana use, drug abuse versus alcohol abuse and the inconsistencies in sentencing guidelines in Pennsylvania.
PA State Representative David Millard (R-109th District) coordinated the event and served as emcee.
