    Strengthening Families ProgramMomgirl

Berwick Area School District and Columbia Montour Family Centers collaborate to deliver the Strengthening Families Program (SFP). SFP is an evidence-based skill building curriculum proven to enhance family communication and relationships as well as prevent behavior problems and substance abuse in youth.

The program targets all families of pre-teen and teen students up to 8th grade. The program is one day per week for 6 weeks and is 2 hours in length allowing youth and parents to meet separately with facilitators for the first hour and then together doing family activities for the second hour. Activities include videos, role-playing discussions, games, and family projects.

Youth will learn how to prepare for their teen years, avoid problems with drugs and alcohol, resist peer pressure, set goals, coping skills, and empathy toward parents/caregivers among several other topics.

Parents/Caregivers will learn about the pre-teen/teen age group, establishing expectations for youth with a reward and consequence component, how to effectively solve problems with youth, and how to show love while setting limits. Together, families will strengthen communication and participate in family meetings and activities.

Family dinner is provided and childcare may be provided upon request.

Contact Ms. Parulis, School Counselor, at 570-759-6400 ext. 3704 if you have any questions about the program or to reserve your spot in the next session.
